Hack the iPhone

[ DEPRECATED ]

Enabling / disabling the auto correction keyboard setting

(intel / PPC Mac)

What I used: iPhone with 1.1.1 firmware, OS X (10.4.10 & 10.5), iTunes 7.4.2

iPhone

The ability to add a preference setting in the keyboard menu that would affect auto correction was discoverd by "Zhivago" in this thread. I've reedited the .plist file to work with 1.1.1 firmware which includes the new shortcut feature. You can't use older keyboard.plist files without reediting them.

Attention

I'm assuming you've already performed the Step 1, Step 2 and Step 4 tutorials. If not, you'll need to.

Step 1.

Download the modified Keyboard.plist file here. Place it in your phonedmg folder.

Step 2.

Start Fugu and navigate to your phonedmg folder and the /Applications/Preferences.app folder. At this point you may want to backup your original Keyboard.plist file. You can just drag it out of the "Preferences" folder to your desktop.

Step 3.

Now drag the Keyboard.plist file you downloaded earlier into your "Preferences" folder. Confirm the overwrite. You don't need to restart to see the change, just back out of the "Keyboard" menu if you were already in it, and enter it again.

Step 4.

Here's my before and after.
