Hack the iPhone

Step 2 for hacking the iPhone: Installation of critical applications

(No computer needed!)

iPhone

If you are really interested in hacking the iPhone, you are going to need some critical applications installed. In this tutorial we will use the Installer program (the one with the online repository) to install OpenSSH, and the Services application which is used to turn OpenSSH on and off whenever you want. While you should be advised there are two password protected accounts for SSH that could be used since they are well known (dottie and alpine), if you keep your SSH shut off when you aren't hacking your iPhone, you won't have anything to worry about. You should also know that running SSH drains the battery as it has an active listener that waits for login requests from SSH clients.

Once again, you don't even need a computer to perform these instructions.

Step 1.

Launch Installer. Press the Install button at the bottom and scroll down to the System folder and press it.

Scroll to OpenSSH and install it. After it has finished you will get a notice.

Back at this list of folders, scroll to Utilities and press it. Scroll down to Services and install it.

Press Home to restart your SpringBoard, then slide to unlock to get back to the SpringBoard and you'll see the new program icon for Services. Launch the program and you'll see just how much control over the iPhone this program gives you. You should switch off your SSH when not in use not only for security purposes, but because it will accelerate the drain on the battery when it is running.

Step 2.

I'm sure you're wondering what happens when you add more icons than can be displayed. In the screen shot on the left I've added the programs iBlackjack and VNotes. So the SpringBoard expanded to move Services to another screen. The screen shot on the right shows you a new SpringBoard that will appear to hold your extra icons. Simply slide your finger to the left or right to switch between screens. Note the white dots above the dock part of the iPhone which let you know which SpringBoard page you are on.
