How to update to and jailbreak 1.1.3 firmware with the Installer (retain 1.1.2 unlock - for 3.9 bootloaders)
(OS X & Windows)
We've been waiting a long time for this one, and thanks to many hard working people we are able to update to
1.1.3 firmware and jailbreak it. This method is different from every other update in that we are only replacing
the iPhone's operating system and not updating the baseband. The downside to this? You won't be able to use the new Google maps feature.
But if you are unlocked, you will retain your unlock.
I want to thank those people involved: the iPhone Dev Team(s), planetbeing, NerveGas, ghost_000, dinopio, bgm,
MuscleNerd, and core.
Note: this process will work with IPSF.
Attention
You should read my
Warning to all iPhone owners
page before proceeding.
Step 1.
You need to be jailbroken on 1.1.2 firmware. In my case I did this on a fresh jailbroken iPhone. You can do this
from a messier state, but you should run the Fix Disk Space application in my repository first. You can find
my repository at http://hackthatphone.com/1.xml I take NO responsbility for any issues you have using this program
as it does not play well with the Categories application.

jailbreak 1.1.2 firmware
If you aren't sure you are on 1.1.2 firmware, then press Settings, General, About.
Step 2.
Press Settings, General, Auto-Lock, and set it to Never. You should now plug in your iPhone to a power source as
this process could take up to an hour.
Step 3.
Launch the Installer. Press the Install icon and scroll down to the Sources folder and install Community
Sources. It may take a while for the sources to refresh. You will now be prompted to update the Installer.
You must have version 3.0b10 (or newer which is now 3.0)
When it has finished installing it will leave you at a blank Update page, so press the Home button. This will restart
the SpringBoard and bring you back to the slide to unlock screen. Launch the Installer again. Go to the System folder
and install the Official 1.1.3 Upgrader.
Note: this program is updated quite frequently. Your version number may be higher than the one pictured here. Read the
pop up message and click OK.
Press the Home button to reset the SpringBoard and slide to unlock to get back to the SpringBoard.
You should now see a new icon: Upgrade. Launch it. At the patch lockdownd question, press Yes if you DO
NOT use AT&T, or O2, or any other authorized Apple cell phone service provider. Press No if you do use an Apple
authorized cell phone service provider. For most of us hackers out there, we do not use iTunes
to activate our iPhones so you should press Yes.
You will then be asked if you would like to restore your iPhone first. If you performed a fresh jailbreak
on 1.1.2 just to update to 1.1.3, then select No since your iPhone has nothing on it right now.
If you have been using 1.1.2 for a while and have added applications and data (and don't mind losing it) then you
should probably choose Yes to avoid any conflicts with this jailbreak.
You will see a progress display for several processes. Note the time in the screen shots throughout
the process.
Note: if your iPhone gets stuck at a message, Attempting to reboot, give it a minute then press and hold
the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen turns black. Then press the Sleep/Wake button
again. It will stay on the Apple logo for a minute and then bring you to the slide to unlock screen.
Step 4.
The screen will go black and the iPhone will reboot. You'll see the Apple logo for about a minute then
you will be taken to the slide to unlock screen. The edit home screen pop up
will appear next.
Pressing and holding an icon makes them all wiggle. Press an icon and drag it anywhere on the screen or to
another screen.
If you go to your About screen you'll see you are on 1.1.3 firmware, and your baseband is from 1.1.2.
I recommend launching the Installer and ensuring your Community Sources are updated to version 3.3 or better. Once
you've done this you'll find several 1.1.3 firmware programs and fixes in folders such as: System, Tweaks, Tweaks
(1.1.3) and Utilities.
Attention - iPhone owners in "non-supported" countries
If you use an iPhone in a country where the iPhone is not for sale, you will have a problem with the phone (MobilePhone.app) and
with SMS (MobileSMS.app) crashing when you try to call/send to someone. This is specific to 1.1.2 firmware.
I live in America, so I don't have this problem. More importantly, I can't test the solution I am about to present to you.
This is a challenge that you, the reader, must take on. Launch the Installer program. Press the Install icon at the bottom.
Scroll down the list of folders to Tweaks (1.1.2) and press it. Next install iWorld.
Now select your country from the list and hope for the best. If you still have issues, I recommend the usual modding
forums like
Hackint0sh.org.
