About me
Hi my name is Mark, and this is the fourth website I've created about cell phone modification. My
other sites:
Hack the L7,
Hack the V3 and
Hack the V3i are all about Motorola phones.
I've been using Apple computers since Bell & Howell made a black version of the Apple ][ in 1979.
So I was excited when the iPhone was finally announced, and eventually hit the streets six months
later. I just knew this phone would be susceptible to modifying like my Motorolas before it. I
couldn't wait to get started on creating a website for the modding of this phone.
First I'd like to say that I do not sell anything on eBay. I know people copy my site's contents and
turn it into Word documents and PDFs to profit from it. I receive nothing from this. I am not
affiliated in any way with the iPhone Sim Free people or any of their resellers. I understand they
direct their customers here for support. I receive nothing from this either. It's the people who click
my donate buttons and click the ad banners on this site that keep it running.
Along with my passion for the iPhone of course.
Many write me thanking the "team" at this website. I want to let my readers know that this website
is actually run by one person. Fortunately for me, I'm looking to change careers right now and
have lots of free time (anyone looking to hire an aspiring technical writer?) to dedicate to the
development of this site. I have much I will continue to add in the way of modifications, news, and
graphics. Ultimately, there is only so much time in the day in which I can do this. I've been
working 16+ hour days on this site for months now to keep up with all the developments and still can't.
People ask me how I find out the things I find out when it comes to modding the iPhone. I'm just
someone who hangs out and listens and reads information as it's made available in the various IRC
channels and modding forums. I'm not a part of the official iPhone development team. I receive no
privileged information. I am not a programmer or an engineer. I'm just a person that explains how to
do the things the iPhone dev team comes up with as simply as I can. It's my goal to bring these
modifications to the typical iPhone user so that they have a chance to modify their iPhone they way
they want, and should be able to. I use a MacBook Pro to do my modding under OS X with a dual boot
to Windows XP via Boot Camp and/or VMWare Fusion. If I figure out how to do something using OS X I
then try to figure out the same thing in Windows and vice versa.
I want to give all the thanks in the world to the iPhone development team (who operate the iPhone
Dev Wiki), including:
"nightwatch",
"roxfan",
"iZsh",
"daeken",
"geohot",
"ziel",
"NerveGas",
"NateTrue",
"drudge",
"dinopio",
"planetbeing" and
"pumpkin" (I'm sorry I know I'm
probably forgetting someone and I don't mean to) .
Without them, none of this would be possible.
They're very talented people, and I hope they can keep up the amazing work!
Some have asked how they can help. I could use translations of my tutorials to most any language.
Please check my main page and then navigate to the appropriate language to ensure a specific
tutorial hasn't already been created. If you aren't willing to translate, then how about providing
the screen shots of the various programs in your native language? Many like using my PayPal donate
buttons which can be found on every page. This site is my employment, and I hope it can
continues to sustain itself into the forseeable future.
Enjoy the site,
Mark (a.k.a "speedyAZ" in IRC)
