iPhone firmware 1.1.3 (deprecated tutorials)
In short, 1.1.3 firmware and the various methods to activate, jailbreak and unlock it has become a mess!
In fact there is one popular program I refuse to cover due to the sheer volume of iPhones it's damaging.
Diversity is causing this confusion. There are people on the 3.9 bootloader (who are locked and unlocked);
others are on the 4.6 bootloader (who are locked); there are also many previous firmwares running around out
there. Even my own tutorials in the "Start here" menu are confusing. So I've renamed them and I'm going to
give you a simple summary of which tutorial does what here. Hopefully this will make it clearer which method
you should use.
In the methods below are discussion of firmware and bootloader versions. You need to determine what these are
before continuing.
To determine your firmware version read this page.
To determine your bootloader version do the following: If you are already jailbroken and have the Installer on
your iPhone then
read this page starting at Step 5.
If you are not already activated, and jailbroken, then read the appropriate guide from my main page depending
on what firmware you have. Then click the previous link.
Method A
Who it's for: Mac users only, any firmware version, any bootloader.
This tutorial is for activating, jailbreaking and unlocking. If you just bought your iPhone from Apple, then
this is the tutorial for you. If you have other firmware on your phone, just update to 1.1.3 using iTunes. I
have personally used this tutorial for both bootloaders myself. Note: you will have 1.1.2 baseband (04.02.13_G)
on your iPhone after this process.
Read the tutorial here.
Method B
Who it's for: Mac and Windows users, any firmware version, 4.6 version bootloader only.
Mac version: This tutorial is a much more difficult and time consuming version of Method A. So why does
this tutorial even exist? Because I write tutorials as soon as a method becomes available. Over time,
refinements are made to the process which simplifies things. Note: you will have 1.1.2 baseband (04.02.13_G)
on your iPhone after this process.
Read the Mac tutorial here.
Windows version: This is currently
the only unlocking tutorial I have for iPhones on 1.1.3 firmware, and
only for bootloader version 4.6. Note: you will have 1.1.2 baseband (04.02.13_G)
on your iPhone after this process.
Read the Windows tutorial here.
Method C
Who it's for: Mac and Windows users with the 3.9 version bootloader.
This tutorial is written for those who currently have 1.1.2 firmware and are currently unlocked. You will
retain your unlock following this tutorial. Note: you will have 1.1.2 baseband (04.02.13_G)
on your iPhone after this process.
Read the Mac and Windows tutorial here.
Method D
Who it's for: Mac and Windows users with the 3.9 version bootloader.
Mac version: This is just a harder version of Method C and is only for bootloader 3.9. It is written for those
who currently have 1.1.2 firmware and are currently unlocked. You will retain your unlock following this
tutorial. Note: you will have 1.1.2 baseband (04.02.13_G)
on your iPhone after this process.
Read the Mac tutorial here.
Windows version: This is just a harder version of Method C and is only for bootloader 3.9. It is written for
those who currently have 1.1.2 firmware and are currently unlocked. You will retain your unlock following this
tutorial. Note: you will have 1.1.2 baseband (04.02.13_G)
on your iPhone after this process.
Read the Windows tutorial here.
Method E
Who it's for: Mac users with the 3.9 version bootloader.
This is my only tutorial for updating to both 1.1.3 firmware and 04.03.13_G baseband.
Read the tutorial here.
Accidentally update to 1.1.3?
This tutorial is for anyone who mistakenly updated, and contains instructions to return to
1.1.1 firmware and reactivate and jailbreak it. It is for 3.9 bootloader iPhones only.
Read the Mac and Windows tutorial here.
The navigation bar above contains links to everything this site has to offer. I only have a couple tutorials
specific to firmware 1.1.3. They are all found in the Start here button. There's a how to unlock the 1.1.3
firmware, how to jailbreak the 1.1.3 firmware, and what to do if you accidentally updated to 1.1.3 and want to
downgrade it.
I've decided to take the stance of not verifying which guides in my 1.1.2 section will work on an iPhone with
1.1.3 firmware. Normally I always verify that tutorials that worked on a previous firmware work on the new firmware.
I do this once a jailbreak is established on new firmware. I am not doing that this time.
1.1.3 firmware really doesn't offer very much to the typical end user (especially considering since we aren't
benefitting from the new baseband). Because of this, I don't see a point in upgrading. In fact, if you read the Featured
page on the Installer it states "It is recommended that only developers upgrade their iPhone/iPod Touch to
1.1.3 at this time." There are lots of issues, and many things don't work in 1.1.3. With the Apple SDK coming in
February (and a new firmware release most likely) it's my position that it's best to wait.
Keep in mind should you get into trouble, I do offer repair services for a fee.
